There is a lot to consider when you relocate to a new property or work place, which is why you need to make sure that you have everything sorted. The last things you want to do is to forget something important or make a mistake. However, getting everything ready and in order to move doesn’t have to be scary and thanks to our helpful tips, it will neither be scary nor complicated to have an organised relocation. There a just a few valuable, handy tips that you need to know, which will help you to keep calm and organised when you come to move home or office.
Stay On Schedule with a Diary or Calendar
To ensure that nothing goes wrong during your relocation and that you have plenty of time to complete all your tasks, allow yourself plenty of time to sort everything out. As well as packing and getting ready to start your new life at your new domestic or commercial environment, you must first make sure that you tie up any loose ends at your current residency before moving on. Keep a diary or calendar and write down everything you need to take care of before a certain date. Cancel any newspaper or magazine subscriptions, contact the post office to inform them of your change of address, notify the electric and water companies etc. and decide whether or not you want to keep the same telephone number when you move and if so, you need to get in touch with the phone company. Whatever duties you must complete before relocating, make sure that you completely finish one task before moving on to the next. Try to also make sure that you don’t fall behind on your ‘to do’ list because the work won’t go away and will only pile up causing you more jobs to sort out later down the line. The key to staying on schedule is to tackle every job one step at a time - little by little.
Sort Out and Throw Out
Sort through your belongings which you will be relocating and throw out anything that you no longer need, use or want. If it doesn’t work or you had forgotten that you had it then it clearly has no place in your home or office.
Tackling the Packing
Packing up is probably the most time consuming task and the hardest work, so it’s best to start it as soon as you can. It is never too soon to start your packing, just as long as you don’t pack up everything too quickly, only then to have to unpack it if you find that you need something again before you relocate. Think carefully about your belongings you are planning to move with you and which of them can you afford to pack up now rather than later. If there are some items that you use on a regular basis or you think you will need between now and the move, then don’t pack them up just yet. To keep your packing organised and neat, pack up your boxes according to the room, office or department in which they belong in. Devise a plan of how you want to label and order your boxes, you may decide to order and label them by colours, numbers or with the name of the room to which they need to go in.
Your Last Minute List
Once you’ve covered the main parts, write yourself a last minute list for all the tasks that you must complete just before you move. This may include any last minute packing, phone calls and other final jobs.
